Getting Comfortable?

What a great time I had with Rick James' Original Stone City Band this weekend! They always bring a smile. I absolutely love the whole SCB family. What an amazing group of beautiful and talented people! It's truly a Blessing to know them and an incredible honor to be with them on stage.

There was a lot of driving for me this week, but we are finally home and looking forward to getting settled back in. Maybe I shouldn't speak too soon though, because look at this guy:

I believe it's a male "Halloween Pennant" dragonfly and it was waiting for me when I got back.

"In almost every part of the world, the Dragonfly symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. The change that is often referred to has its source in mental and emotional maturity and understanding the deeper meaning of life." - Google

Fine. Bring it on! (Just as I was about to get comfortable.) Might as well have an adventure.

Hope you all had a lovely holiday!

Motor Running...

Fair warning:
This week was all over the map (like this blog is going to be).

I got my motor running...

and went a little wild.

Maybe I was looking for adventure.

All kinds of things came my way.

In the end, there was no use crying over spilled milk (I made things happen)

and I was reminded that sometimes we just really need others. (I can climb up.)

Right now I'm just going to enjoy today and take the world in a love embrace.

(Somewhere in there, I may have taken a left turn.)

Have a great week everyone! LOL
I'm going to try to stay on track. XO!

Love,
T

Happy Halloween!

We didn't walk the usual way. Mommy and I went on an adventure...

There were ghosts,

and big spiders,

and unspeakable things.

Some stuff was just plain weird...

Things got weird at home too.

The wind is howling. Yep, something strange is going on out there.

Maybe I'll wake up and find out it was all a dream.

Bwahaha... BWAHAHA!!!

Have a happy, fun and safe Halloween!

Namaste,
Z

The Open Road Ahead (just beyond taxes)

Maybe this is a good time of year for taxes to be due. I feel like one of those new plants just coming up. I have to fight my way through the dirt before I can bloom. It's just like all this tax preparation. I have to relive the past year of life through old receipts and get through it all before I can truly embrace spring and sunshine and new ideas.

Sometimes, what I am thinking is perfectly reflected in my Louise Hay calendar...

Once I get through this, I know there is a new open road ahead! The book I've been reading talks about letting go of old ideas. (Simple, but not easy.) In The Game of Life, Florence Scovel Shinn writes about the idea of "Divine Design." It might not be the idea YOU have of how things should be going in your life, but instead the "Divine Idea." What is waiting for us in life may in fact be infinitely better than what we are imagining for ourselves, therefore we might want to let go of our own limited mindset and be free to allow the "Divine Idea" to manifest.

"Many a man is building for himself in imagination
a bungalow when he should be building a palace."
- Florence Scovel Shinn

This week, I'll keep getting through the old projects at hand. I'll invite the Divine Idea (whatever it might be) to enter my life and look forward to the Perfect New Adventure ahead!  :)

Adventures with Trees and Buddha

Last week began with a tree climbing adventure with Russ. It ended with a story about Buddha. Somehow, it all ties together in a way that makes perfect sense.

On Monday, we ventured into the trees on aerial obstacle courses. Our successful journey involved balance, strength, and conquering fear.

At the end of the week, I was asked to embark on another adventure of sorts. I was specifically asked to enter a potentially challenging situation and to meet any negativity with grace and love. It felt as if I was being tested, both mentally and spiritually, to see if I was able to take the "high road."

That journey also required balance, inner strength, and the complete abolition of fear. I became determined to simply stay on a course of positive energy, remaining focused and impervious to any outside influence. Mission accomplished.

The next day a friend of mine shared a story he knew about Buddha. I've since found several variations online. It goes something like this:

Buddha, having gained many followers at the time, encountered one specific traveler who seemed to be determined to make him angry. The man shouted offensive remarks, insulting Buddha and dishonoring him in front of his followers. Buddha remained calm and unruffled. He returned only kindness and love to the traveler. This continued for several days until finally the rude man asked Buddha why, after days of ridicule and verbal abuse was he still nothing but kind to him.

Buddha replied with a question: If someone gives you a gift and you do not accept it, to whom does it belong?

The point is that if someone is mean to you, or gives you the "gift" of rudeness, you do not have to accept it. Then the gift still belongs to the giver. We do not have to upset ourselves or stress out when others give us unwelcome gifts. We can simply choose not to accept them. No one has the power to anger or upset us unless we allow them to. That choice remains ours and we are empowered by it.

What gifts are we accepting from others? What gifts are we giving others?

I am reminded that there are all kinds of adventures and challenges in this life. Just as there are those of a physical nature, there are those of a mental and spiritual nature as well. We can embark on each of them with a sense of balance, strength and Love. If we choose to strive for balance, strength and Love in the face of all challenges, we'll be doing pretty good.

P.S.
It occurs to me that sometimes the most loving thing to do, is love ourselves enough to remove ourselves from harmful situations. Blessed journey...

Simple Choice

After the crazy, chaotic whirlwind that was last week, I slow down, smile and remember...

I'll never know exactly where I'm going, but I know it will be wonderful!

Unchartered Territory

At the beginning of the week I saw a few online posts like this...

"If you want something you never had,
you have to do something you've never done."
- The Mind Unleashed (Facebook)

"An open mind allows you to explore and create and grow.
Remember that progress would be impossible
if we always did things the way we always have."
- Dr Wayne W. Dyer

So I started trying to think of things that I've never done, and then do them.

I found a new gym and signed up for a trial membership.  I quickly decided to join and took a Zumba class (never did THAT before).  The gym membership included a complimentary physical assessment with a personal trainer.  I liked the session so much that I signed up for twelve weeks of personal training sessions (never did THAT before either).  The fitness routine with the trainer included many new exercises, some on machines that were new to me and which I was excited to learn about.  After realizing that Russ could be added to the same membership, I brought him to join too, and we both took a cycle class (spinning class) together.  THAT was new for both of us and was NO JOKE!  WHEW!!!  That was a serious workout.

Thursday and Friday included meetings in the city and in a spirit of adventure I went to two new restaurants that I had never been to before.

On Broadway

So, by week's end there were a number of new things I had done.  I soon realized that they had all cost money and wondered if I should do something new that didn't cost anything.  What about volunteering somewhere?

I Yelped "volunteer opportunities" but nothing came up in my area.  What did come up required advanced training and an application that would take time to process.  As "coincidence" would have it, my gig on Saturday was a fundraising event for an organization that is dedicated to developing and promoting volunteerism.  It was one of the same organizations that came up on the search!  The idea was reinforced, and I knew I was on the right track.  Although several meetings that I attended this week involved volunteering my time and efforts for various causes, I wanted to find something NEW, and to do something I have never done before.

At the gig with Dean (drums)

Sunday brought with it just the opportunity I was searching for and I seized the moment.  After church service, I approached the gentleman who had made announcements, and introduced myself.  I knew that they had been looking for volunteers for various tasks in the past, and asked him what types of things I could help out with within the parameters of my usual "last minute" type of schedule.  He was very nice and welcoming and offered several suggestions of things I could help with - even though I am only a visiting guest to that congregation.  He insisted that Russ and I join the gathering downstairs for brunch and fellowship.  There we were met with friendly faces, hot food and a lovely sense of community.  There was a table near the door with signup sheets for various volunteer activities.  I smiled and stopped to sign up for a few before I joined Russ, who was conversing with a couple of people.  It just so happened that they were talking about the concept of "ask and ye shall receive" as I approached.  I smiled again at the recollection of just how true that had been for me all week.

Just as soon as I had looked for something new to do, I had found it.  Just as I (literally) had searched on Yelp for volunteer opportunities, circumstance had placed me directly at an event held by an organization at the top of the search list!  Just as I set out to find a more immediate opportunity to volunteer, I found several.

Today, as I sit here writing this, it occurs to me that there are many other new things that we can do that cost nothing.  We can forgive someone.  We can love greater.  We can care more.  We can shift something inside of ourselves to a new level.  We can strive to understand someone better.  We can let go of some anger or resentment we've been holding on to.  We can smile at a stranger.  We can go the extra mile on almost anything we do.  We can surprise a loved one with something unexpected.  There's always something new to learn.  All of these things would fall under the category of something "new."  They can cost nothing, require little time and can have great significance!

Russ surprised me with this bouquet :)

This week, I'll keep my eyes open for anything new.  I'll seize moments and take new steps forward.

Namaste!

Fear Factor

OK, so it all started when I saw a post from the Chautauqua County Visitor's Bureau about Peek'n Peak's new "Mountain Adventure" and the "Aerial Adventure Course."  I shared the post, said that it looked fun and asked, "Who wants to go?"

It wasn't long before I found out that my cousin DID want to go, while my mother-in-law clearly did NOT.  :)  I quickly remembered that pesky little "fear of heights" thing I have, but still thought it looked fun.  I decided that going and doing the course would be a good exercise in facing my fears.  As it turned out, my cousin and I were both available to go on Sunday.

I remembered something that I heard a friend of mine once say that we repeat often in our house:

"Are you scared?  Do you feel nervous?  Are you short of breath?  Is your heart pounding?  Then congratulations my friend!  You are really living!"

I thought, "Ok then, let's do it!!!"

Then I said, "WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!???"

Then the course got harder…

And higher…

And faster…

Did I mention scarier?

But I think I got better, stronger and more confident as I went...

Isn't this how life goes?

Thank you to all who encourage us to get "off the ground."

Me and my cousin Karen (the voice of encouragement)

All in all, it was AMAZING!!!  What a cool thing to do at a ski resort during the summer!

Here's wishing you all a fabulous adventure this week…

Namaste!

P.S.
A tremendous thank you to my cousin Karen and our friend Frank - for their stellar support, encouragement, photography/video taking skills, humor and excellent company! Love you guys!
